The city and county of Denver take material recycling and hazardous waste disposal very seriously. Both entities routinely monitor neighborhoods and commercial areas to detect any unauthorized dumping. Illegal dumping is constituted by the improper disposal of items such as propane tanks, heating fuel containers and devices, industrial furniture (such as a workbench), household appliances, lawn equipment, outdoor recreational items, and chemicals.
Every attempt shall be made by an authorized agency representative to contact the violator and seek resolution of the violation. Conflicts and disputes arising from the enforcement of the rules and regulations shall be resolved by the Manager or an authorized representative. Repeated or gross violations may result in the issuance of a notice of violation up to and including a court summons. -- City and County of Denver
In an effort to protect the natural beauty of the city and county, there are designated facilities that serve to accept said materials. To discard items other than ordinary household trash, there are a number of recycling drop off locations, which can be found on the city's official website.
To dispose of furniture, residents are encouraged to drop it off at one of the several charities, where it can be cleaned and sold, or refurbished and sold. The same applies to household appliances, clothing, and like items. There are three businesses which accept propane tanks, and several places to drop-off electronics to donate or to recycle. For household appliances, the City and County of Denver, Denver Solid Waste Management, is one of the several locations for drop-off. Household trash can be placed on the curb on scheduled pickup days, and bags or containers may not be larger than 32 gallons and weigh no more than 50 pounds. Yard and landscape trimmings may also be bagged, with branches secured with rope or string, cut down to no more than 4 feet long and also not exceeding 50 pounds.
